Food for Teeth: Sustenance to Keep You Smiling
A great
set of teeth is needed to fully enjoy food in its many forms and
flavors. Similarly, a healthy set of food that should make up one’s
diet regimen is needed to keep that great set of teeth complete.
Sustenance good for the teeth should contain substances that
naturally enhance saliva production, which in turn neutralizes acid.
Thorough chewing produces more saliva, and what food
types need more extended chomping than fruits and vegetables that are
rich in fiber? Saliva has phosphates and calcium that combat the
destructive effects of acid. At the same time, water in fruits and
vegetables help cleanse the mouth by offsetting the sugar content of
previously ingested food.
Cheese, yoghurt, milk, and other dairy products,
meanwhile, contain vitamins and minerals that make the teeth strong
and not easily prone to decay. Cheese aids in saliva stimulation and
contains calcium. Dairy products are likewise high in phosphates that
help balance out minerals in the mouth.
Nuts are teeth-friendly, too. Peanuts contain calcium
and vitamin D (which helps in calcium absorption), while cashews help
increase saliva production. Walnuts are many times healthier than the
next nut and contain the following substances: folic acid, iron,
magnesium, thiamine, fiber, vitamin E, niacin, zinc, potassium,
vitamin B6.
